Step into the great outdoors and discover Hillsdale State Park, located between Spring Hill and Paola. Conveniently located just a short drive from the Kansas City Metro Area, this state park offers visitors over 12,000 acres of natural beauty to explore.
Hillsdale Lake, the centerpiece of the park, was completed in 1982 and offers a playground of water activities for visitors. With more than 70 percent of the standing timber left in the reservoir basin, the lake is a haven for fish such as walleye, catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. With 4,500 acres of water and 51 miles of shoreline open to fishing, anglers of all skill levels will find something to love. And for those who love to hunt, there are roughly 7,000 acres open to hunting within the park’s wildlife area.
But Hillsdale State Park isn’t just for those who love fishing and hunting. The park is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, including whitetail deer, bobwhite quail, squirrel, rabbit, beaver, muskrat, and a variety of waterfowl. Birdwatchers will be delighted to spot bald eagles, shorebirds, finches, warblers, sparrows, and hawks.
For horseback riders, the park’s Saddle Ridge equestrian area offers 32 miles of marked trails to explore. And for those who prefer to stay overnight, the park offers a variety of camping options, from primitive tent sites to RV sites with full hookups. And during the busy summer months, minimum stays are required for camping reservations.
No matter the season, Hillsdale State Park offers visitors the opportunity to connect with nature and experience the great outdoors in Kansas. So pack your camping gear and head out for an adventure at Hillsdale State Park.
