Weight-distributing hitch
A weight-distributing hitch is a towing system that uses a combination of springs and levers to evenly distribute the weight of a towed load. This system is particularly useful when towing RV trailers. The main function of a weight-distributing hitch is to transfer some of the tow ball weight (the downward force exerted on the tow ball by the trailer) onto the front wheels of the towing vehicle. This helps in balancing the weight more evenly across both the towing vehicle and the trailer.
By doing so, the hitch improves the stability and control of the towing vehicle, reducing the likelihood of issues like swaying or sagging at the rear of the vehicle. It also helps to a lesser extent with the distribution of weight on the RV trailer itself. This even distribution of weight is crucial for safe towing, ensuring that the vehicle and trailer are level and that the towing setup handles more effectively, especially in conditions like braking or making turns.
