Mattress
RV mattresses are typically made of foam, and there are a couple of reasons for this. One reason is the quality of the mattress, and another is the need for custom shapes and sizes. Not all mattress manufacturers produce custom-sized mattresses, so shipping becomes an important consideration. Foam mattresses have an advantage here because they can be rolled up for shipping without losing their quality, making them cheaper to transport compared to innerspring mattresses, which are bulkier and cost more to ship.
The size and shape of RV mattresses can vary a lot depending on the RV. When choosing an RV mattress, it’s important to consider not just the width and length, but also the height. The right height depends on where the bed will be in the RV. For instance, thinner mattresses are usually better for pop-up trailers, bunk beds, or overhead cabins. RV mattresses can come in several shapes, like rectangular, cut corner, symmetrical cut corners, or with rounded corners. Most RV mattresses come with a minimum warranty of 5 years.
Even within the category of foam RV mattresses, there are different levels of quality. This often depends on the density of the foam used by the manufacturer – higher density foam usually means better quality. Foam RV mattresses need to be heavy-duty to maintain their quality over time. This is especially important in RVs, where temperatures can vary greatly, from very hot in summer to very cold in winter. Regular foam mattresses might not hold up as well in these extreme conditions.
