Engine battery

Engine batteries in a motorhome are specifically designed for starting and running the vehicle’s engine. They are different from the “house batteries,” which provide power for the living quarters of the motorhome.

Engine batteries have a unique design. They feature thin plates with a large surface area. This design is essential because it allows the battery to deliver the high currents needed to start the engine of a motor vehicle. However, these thin plates have a downside: they can be quickly damaged if the battery is deeply discharged.

That’s why engine batteries aren’t suitable for use as house batteries. House batteries are made to provide power over a longer period and can handle being discharged more deeply without getting damaged. In contrast, engine batteries are optimized for short, powerful bursts of energy to start the engine.
