Electric trailer brakes

Electric trailer brakes are a special type of braking system used on larger travel trailers and fifth-wheel trailers. When a trailer reaches a certain weight, it needs an extra system to help it stop safely, and that’s where electric trailer brakes come in.

Here’s how they work: Inside the cab of the towing vehicle, there’s a device that controls the trailer brakes. This device uses the 12-volt DC electrical current from the towing vehicle. When you activate the brakes, this device sends current to the electrically-operated brakes on the trailer’s wheels.

This system is really important for maintaining control and safety while towing larger trailers, ensuring that both the towing vehicle and the trailer can stop effectively.
